American Institute of Building Design Programs

Since 1950, the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD), the nationally recognized association of Professional Building Designers, has provided its members professional and educational resources, and has developed nationwide design standards and a code of ethics for the building design profession. Today, the AIBD represents professional and associate members in 46 states and throughout Canada and abroad. Its chartered societies are active in their respective legislative arenas and work to promote public awareness of the building design profession.

Travel Classes for Design and Construction Professionals

Presented in conjunction with AIBD and Period Style Homes, Inc.

The program offers advanced training in traditional residential design and aims to teach design and construction professionals how to create better designed and detailed houses of beauty and value. Classes will cover: general concepts of residential design; detailed instruction in selected regional styles; site visits and sketching tours. General concepts of residential design covered include an overview of traditional American residential styles; strategies for locating and massing a house; instruction in plan and façade composition; and discussion of materials and the detailing of roofs, eaves, walls, doors and windows will be studied for each of the regional styles. The core of these classes is the presentation of case studies of new projects done by architects and designers that explore the various styles to be studied.
