New England Chapter

The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America Announce Formation of New England Chapter

On July 8, 2005, the ICA&CA celebrated the launch of its newest Chapter at the Harvard Club in Boston. Seventy-five architects, designers, builders, craftspeople, artisans, and historians attended the inaugural event and 75 companies in the New England area made an appearance. The New England Chapter will be the seventh chapter of the ICA&CA and national president Paul Gunther anticipates to be a strong one: “We have witnessed growing support from throughout this region and are eager to see further advancement unfold under the chapter’s well-informed aegis. It is heartening to the entire organization that so many share our mission and its potential for enhancing contemporary classicism.”

The ICA&CA had over 2,000 participants in their programs last year and the numbers are continuing to increase. With the New England Chapter opening their doors, numerous schools, students, and professionals will benefit from their presence. Josh Linder, a recent student at the ICA&CA in New York and also a resident of Boston, states, “Participating in an intensive program in NYC has been enlightening and has energized my interest in the continued study and application of Classical Architecture. The opportunity to continue studying through the ICA & CA in the New England area will be a vital part of my future growth.”

In the past 25 years there has been a tremendous change among the classical artists in the New England area and across the United States. Self-taught artists once struggled to define themselves in the professional and academic world. Now a new world of architects and the allied arts are joining together to educate one another and to expand opportunities in traditional architecture. The New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America will be one of the first steps towards this collaboration.
