The first Shutze Awards were awarded in February 2007 for small, large, and multi-family Residential design and Commercial/Civic/Institutional Projects. Additional awards were given for Interior design, and a general award in the category of craftsmanship. The awards were juried by Anne Fairfax, Chairman of ICA&CA and principal of Fairfax and Sammons, New York; Jude Leblanc, Associate Professor of Architecture, Georgia Tech; and David Morton, Senior Editor of Rizzoli Publications International and the 2006 winner of the Reid Prize given by the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. The awards were presented on February 24, 2007 in a formal ceremony at the Academy of Medicine, designed by Philip Shutze.

The awards are named for Philip Trammell Shutze, the Atlanta architect whose work is revered internationally as one of the Twentieth Century’s most devoted Classicists. The awards recognize similar individuals who are contributing to the creation of Twentieth-first century classical and traditional architecture.

Winners of the Shutze awards were recognized at an evening ceremony held on February 24, 2007 at the Academy of Medicine designed by Philip Shutze.
