Church of Santa Croce: Niche and Reliefs

Description:

The Church of Santa Croce in Florence is of the Franciscan order; the expansive church has sixteen chapels decorated with frescoes by Giotto and his students. Santa Croce holds Michelangelo’s tomb. The multiple casts represent significant parts of the church. (a) Three of five decorative relief panels from the pulpit that tells the life of St. Francis. (b) A niche with the sculpture of the Madonna and Child. The church’s pulpit was created by Benedetto da Maiano from 1472 to 1476.

Condition: Damage to the niche includes the missing head and arm of the Madonna figure, the reliefs remain relatively undamaged. Cast has been thoroughly cleaned and restored.
