Triumphal Arch of Augustus in Aosta
Description:
The ICAA would like to recognize the magnificent restoration and remounting of the Triumphal Arch of Augustus contributed by Foster Reeve and his colleagues at Foster Reeve & Associates, Inc, as encouraged by Richard Cameron and Ariel LLP.
The miniature cast depicts an archway with four main columns on the front and rear and a façade to represent marble blocks. Decorative embellishments line the roof and columns. The original arch lies on the edge of Aosta in commemoration of Augustus and his victory over the Salsassi; the city was then founded by Augustus in 24 B.C. It would have had an attic with inscription of the commemorated event, as well as sculpture – some in bronze. Aosta is the capital of Valle d’ Aosta in the Italian Alps, northwestern Italy, with both French and Italian as the native languages.
