Atelier in Traditional Architectural Wash Rendering

Session I: Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, April 7, 2009; Session II: Thursday, May 14 – Sunday, May 17; 6:00 – 9:00 PM

This course will introduce the student to the traditional architectural rendering media of India ink and watercolor, and the various ways in which they can be used to create non-perspectival wash renderings of architectural subjects. Among the topics covered are materials, India ink wash, toned ink wash, and full watercolor; stretching and mounting watercolor paper; casting of shadows and shades, simulating texture, atmospheric perspective, and drafting with India Ink; sheet composition, and the production of the Beaux Arts drawing type called the Analytique. The course will be divided into two sessions. Session I will offer instruction in India Ink and Toned Ink Wash. Session II will proceed into Full Color Wash. Session II will also offer limited space for former students who successfully completed previously offered India Ink Wash courses.
