Behind-the-Scenes tour of The Charles A. Platt Book Collection at The Century Association

Thursday, April 22; 4:00 pm

The Charles A. Platt book collection at the Century Association contains more than 400 monographs, book series, and journals ranging in date from 1715 to the 1930s. Overall, this collection appears to be Platt’s research or “working” library that he no doubt regularly consulted for inspiration as he developed his own designs. Almost every volume is illustrated — several folios contain little or no text. There are select rare editions, and a number of reprints of early works. The major subject focus is historic surveys of European gardens, ornament, interiors, and architecture. Additionally, there are books on architectural details, wrought iron, furniture, urban history, and antiquities.

By invitation only Benefactor Circle and Latrobe Society members. To upgrade your membership or to learn more, please call Sara Durkacs, Director of Membership, at (212) 730-9646, ext. 106.

Cost/Learning Unit: 5 AIA/CES LUs (Theory)
