Discover Classical New York: A Walk Along the Grand Concourse
Saturday, May 16, 2009; 9:45 AM – 12:00 PM
In 1923, Governor Alfred E. Smith called the Bronx “the most striking example of urban development in the United States.” After nearly a century of grandeur, decay, and restoration, the Concourse, now celebrating its centennial year, is still home to neoclassical, Moorish and Art Deco gems for which it became famous. Sam Goodman, Urban Planner for the Bronx Borough President’s Office, will offer a mix of architectural and social history, as well as exclusive access to the interiors of nearly all the important buildings along the Concourse.
Please meet in the lobby of The Bronx Museum of the Arts (1040 Grand Concourse at 165th Street) at 9:45 am. Coffee will be provided by the Bronx Museum. The tour will get under way at 10:00 am sharp and will last approximately two hours minimum. This event is sold out, if you wish to be added to the waiting list, please call (212) 730-9646, ext. 109.
