Annual McKim Lecture

New York’s Pennsylvania Stations

The 7th annual McKim Lecture will be delivered by the distinguished architectural historian, scholar, and author Hilary Ballon. ICA&CA advisor, Francis Morrone, has called her the most important architectural historian in America today. The talk will focus on the destroyed master work of McKim, Mead & White and above all, Charles Follen McKim of that fabled New York firm. The lecture follows the theme of Dr. Ballon’s important 2002 book of like title and will include a review of current developments over the future of a new Pennsylvania Station in a converted, nearby James A. Farley General Post Office Building also by McKim, Mead & White. Dr. Ballon will be introduced by her colleague and sometime collaborator, world renowned scholar, Kenneth T. Jackson, who is the Jacques Barzun Professor of History and Social Sciences at Columbia University, where he also serves as Director of the Herbert H. Lehman Center for American History.

The McKim Lecture is held in partnership with the IC&CA and the One West 54th Street Foundation at The University Club, College Hall. Reception at 6:15 pm, Lecture at 6:45 pm. Tickets are $50 per person for the cocktail reception and lecture; the optional dinner in the University Club Dinning Room following the lecture is $70 per person.
