Villa Almerico Capra (La Rotonda)
The Villa Almerico Capra, also called “La Rotonda,” was built between 1565 and 1569. It was conceived as a sumptuous country residence for a wealthy Vicentine named Paolo Almerico and is now considered to be the universal ‘icon’ of the “Palladian villa”, i.e., “the perfect house.” “La Rotonda” is not a villa-farm as many of Palladio’s other buildings are, but rather a villa-temple, with elements of high order and harmony and a beautiful circular dome rising out of its center.
