Villa Valmarana
The Villa Valmarana, constructed in the early 1540s was one of Palladio’s first independent works. As Beltramini says, “[t]his building [was] a transitional project in Palladio’s development, but one in which we find the characteristic gestures of his architectural language fully formulated for the first time. There are typical elements of the local Vicentine building tradition, such as the arrangement of the rooms, similar to that of the Villa Trissino at Cricoli…These elements are combined with formal motifs derived from the great ancient baths, which Palladio had seen on his first journey to Rome in 1541.” (Beltramini, p. 115)
