The Shutze Awards

Program Criteria

The Southeast Chapter is pleased to announce the fourth design competition to recognize excellence in Traditional and Classical design. The Shutze Awards will be given for small, large, and multi-family Residential design and Commercial/Civic/Institutional Projects. Additional awards will be considered for Interior Design, Craftmanship, Renovation, and Landscape/Garden Design.

The awards will be presented on February 20, 2010 in a formal ceremony at the Atlanta History Center in Atlanta, GA. For complete details, contact Susan Garrett Mason, Southeast Chapter Coordinator, (678) 447-3996 or visit www.classicist-se.org.

Award Criteria

The awards are named for Philip Trammell Shutze, the Atlanta architect whose work is revered internationally as one of the twentieth century’s most devoted Classicists. The awards will recognize similar individuals who are contributing to the creation of twenty-first century classical and traditional architecture.

Eligibility

Works by members of the ICA&CA with offices in the geographic Southeast are eligible for consideration. The individual making the submission must have the legal right to submit the work of the architects and designers. The submission must be made by a member and one can join the ICA&CA at the time of submission. The submission must have been constructed within the last 10 years and be substantially complete as of submission date of December 1, 2009.

Winners

Winners of the Shutze awards will be recognized at an evening ceremony held on February 20, 2010 at the Atlanta History Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The winners are expected to attend or send a representative.

Submission Requirements

Each entry should be submitted in a 3-ring binder with end pockets. The entry form should be enclosed in an unsealed envelope and inserted in the front binder pocket. Nothing should be added to the binder that identifies the firm or individual making the submission. Binders should include a prepaid return envelope so the materials can be returned.

The binder should include a brief statement summarizing significant features of the project, site, landscape, and any details necessary to convey the significance of the project to the jury. Photographs of significant views along with plans and sections and brief captions should be included in the binder sufficient to explain the project to the jury. Similar explanatory information and images should be provided for interior design and craftsmanship.
