The Architecture of Place: In Conversation with... is series of interviews between design practitioners, scholars, and educators. The latest iteration of the series, from February 2025, features conversations with artist Minty Sainsbury, architect and artist Safoura Zahedi, and architect and educator Sara Bega.
Each talk gives speakers the opportunity to discuss their areas of practice or study, ranging from topics as diverse as place-making and urban development to traditional and vernacular architecture, and field questions from the audience.
The Architecture of Place series is a collaboration between the ICAA, INTBAU, and The King's Foundation.
In this installment of the winter 2024-2025 Architecture of Place series, British architectural artist Minty Sainsbury discusses her career and the role of architecture and sense of place in her artistic practice with American architect and educator Sara Bega.
Minty Sainsbury is an artist living and working in London. Best known for her highly detailed and instantly recognizable stylized architectural pencil drawings, Minty balances her time working between bespoke commissions and her own drawing projects, and has recently finished an artistic residency in India.
Minty has exhibited in Glasgow in partnership with the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society, as well as at four solo exhibitions in Central London. Alongside solo shows she has exhibited in group exhibitions across the UK, Paris, and New York. This past year Minty was selected to exhibit at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London. She has an ever growing following on social media with more than 200,000 followers across her platforms.
Minty studied Architecture at the University of Cambridge where she was a scholar at Emmanuel College and graduated with a first class degree, winning a Royal Institute of British Architects student award. Minty went on to work for a year at the architecture firm Carmody Groarke in London before pursuing a full time career as an artist.
