Please join Erik Evens for A Classical Overture: An Introduction to the Language of Classical Architecture, an immersive three-hour lecture designed to introduce the enduring principles of the classical tradition. This course serves as a clear and accessible primer on the language, logic, and rationale of classical architecture, offering a guided introduction to the classical orders and their foundational elements. Intended for beginners, students, and curious laypersons alike, the lecture explores the essential components of classical design, including proportion, measurement, and formal rules. Participants will gain familiarity with the core canonical texts that have shaped classical architecture across centuries, as well as an overview of the canon of the Orders of Architecture. This course provides an ideal foundation for those wishing to pursue deeper, more focused study through subsequent ICAA offerings.
Instructor:
Erik Evens is a lifelong resident of California, born and raised in Los Angeles. He is the principal of Evens Architects, a boutique design studio operating under the aegis of the KAA Design Group, specializing in classical and traditional residential design. His work has been published in a wide array of publications, including Architectural Digest, Luxe, Milieu, Traditional Home and Western Interiors.
