Hosted by the ICAA Rocky Mountain Chapter
One of the best ways to study and learn from architecture precedents is through observation and drawing in the field, in direct contact with original models. This course will consist of first a lecture covering the history and examples of and approach to architects' field drawings as a methodology for the study of buildings and then the application of those methods to complete three types of field drawings (Measured, Analytical, and Perspective) of the Boulder Carnegie Library (1906).
The Boulder Carnegie Library, now known as the Carnegie Library for Local History, was designed by Thomas MacLaren and opened in 1907. MacLaren was born in Scotland and trained at the Royal Academy of London and South Kensington School of Art at Edinburgh before moving to Colorado Springs in 1894. The library is one of the 2,509 Carnegie libraries built by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie between 1883 and 1929. The library is an excellent example of the Neoclassical Revival Style.
