Join us for the 6th Annual Mark Hampton Lecture featuring AD100 Designers Steven Gambrel and Alexa Hampton. The Annual Mark Hampton Lecture honors the legacy of renowned designer Mark Hampton and celebrates the highest caliber of interior design in the classical tradition.
In this program Steven and Alexa will discuss Steven's endless dedication to creating highly customized interior and architectural details for each project in which he is involved. Whether he is designing a polished uptown duplex, a rambling country house, or a weekend beach retreat, Steven serves the needs of each client with his passion for timeless, comfortable homes that improve with age. He draws inspiration from vernacular architectural details of the particular region of each commission. Steven subscribes to the importance of properly proportioned structures and details, partnered always with a carefully curated collection of vintage, antique, and custom furniture designed by Steven himself.
S.R. Gambrel, Inc. is currently working on several large projects in and around Manhattan, the Hamptons, Palm Beach, Montana, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC and London. In addition to these residential commissions, the firm has also been involved in both the architectural and interior design components of two restaurants in New York’s West Village and most recently The Ranch Hudson Valley, an exclusive wellness retreat. Steven’s projects in New York City, Chicago, Aspen, Vail, Miami, Virginia, London, Zurich, Hong Kong, and beyond have won him a diverse and devoted clientele.
His work is featured consistently in the world’s leading publications, including World of Interiors, Architectural Digest, Town and Country, House Beautiful, Galerie, New York Magazine, the New York Times, and Elle Décor. S.R. Gambrel, Inc. has been repeatedly honored as one of “today’s greatest talents in Architecture and Design”, in Architectural Digest’s “AD 100.” Steven Gambrel’s first book, entitled Time and Place, was released by Abrams in March, 2012. His second book with Rizzoli, entitled Perspective, was released in Fall 2018. He is currently working with Rizzoli on his third book, yet to be named, for release in 2026.
Since Alexa Hampton took the reins of Mark Hampton, her father’s iconic firm, as owner and president in 1998, she has advanced its legacy of elegant, practical, classically based interiors for modern living. Regularly named to Architectural Digest’s AD100 and House Beautiful’s Top Designer list as well as Elle Décor’s A-List, Hampton translates the classical principles of good design and decoration into some of today’s most elegant, enduring, and functional domestic landscapes.
Like her father, Hampton is a highly regarded author with two critically praised books on design to date – The Language of Interior Design and Decorating in Detail. In an ever-expanding portfolio of acclaimed products, Hampton provides smart, stylish, design-rich solutions for every aspect of the home. Hampton sits on the board of trustees for the New York School of Interior Design and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art.
