Gardens of the North Shore of Chicago
Hosted by the Chicago-Midwest Chapter
ICAA member Ben Lenhardt will discuss his recently published book, GARDENS OF THE NORTH SHORE OF CHICAGO, with a virtual illustrated presentation on Thursday, February 25, at 6:00 pm CST. Lenhardt explores twenty-five private gardens along the shore of Lake Michigan from Evanston to Lake Bluff, including Winnetka, Highland Park and Lake Forest. Engaging descriptions of gardens based on detailed interviews with the garden owners provide personal and historical context and background about the properties and their designers. The last garden highlighted, the Chicago Botanic Garden, has inspired many of the featured gardeners and has contributed to the high quality of private gardens on the North Shore. Lush photographs by noted landscape photographer Scott Shigley create a rich visual narrative.
The publisher, Phaidon/Monacelli, has generously offered a 30% book discount off the $65 retail price for members who wish to purchase the book in advance as well as after the presentation. If you are interested in purchasing the book visit the Monacelli website and click on Buy Now and then enter the coupon code CHICAGO30 at checkout.
Benjamin F. Lenhardt Jr. began gardening in the Carolinas when he was young and over the last thirty years has gardened passionately in different climates in Winnetka, Illinois, and Charleston, South Carolina.
