Hosted by the ICAA New England Chapter
Join the ICAA New England Chapter for an exclusive tour of the Smith Residence in Dedham, Massachusetts—an award-winning example of contemporary classical design in the Greek Revival style. Designed by Dell Mitchell Architects and recipient of the 2010 Bulfinch Award for both Architecture and Landscape Architecture, the residence offers a thoughtful reinterpretation of 19th-century precedents, blending architectural rigor with a strong sensitivity to site and landscape.
Set within Dedham’s historic Precinct One neighborhood, the house occupies the hilltop of an earlier Greek Revival cottage, preserving mature specimen trees and the character of the original setting. The design draws on classical principles of symmetry, proportion, and sequence, featuring a monumental two-story portico, refined detailing, and a carefully orchestrated progression of light-filled interior spaces.
Guests will be welcomed to the front door by way of the landscaped grand staircase. A guided tour of the major interior spaces will be led by Dell Mitchell of Dell Mitchell Architects, offering insight into the design, detailing, craftsmanship, enduring quality and relevance to contemporary life. It will be followed by a guided exploration of the grounds led by John Haven of LeBlanc Jones Landscape Architects, highlighting the integration of architecture and landscape, including gardens, terraces, and long views, ending at the formal lawn and terrace for a reception.
A reception will follow.
