Hosted by the ICAA Southern California Chapter
Please join us in welcoming Edmund Hollander and Stephen Eich of Hollander Design Landscape Architects. In this lecture, Ed and Stephen will explore how classical design principles inform the creation of multiple homes for families across diverse settings, and how architecture and landscape are thoughtfully tailored to each location. Rooted in proportion, procession, and a deep understanding of context, their work demonstrates how timeless principles can guide landscapes that feel both enduring and alive.
Drawing from Hollander Design's most recent book, The Landscape of Home, the discussion considers the idea of home as the natural surroundings in which life unfolds: a place of living, changing beauty, refuge, and above all, joy, where family and friends gather to create a lifetime of memories. Through projects in the countryside, along the coast, and in town - from expansive country estates to intimate rooftop gardens - they will examine essential elements of the firm’s work, including the procession of entry, the positioning of plant life and trees, the movement of people into and through a property, and the way a garden evolves through the seasons.
Speakers:
Edmund Hollander is president of Hollander Design Landscape Architects, the only landscape architecture firm elected to Architectural Digest’s AD100 Designers List, given an ICAA Arthur Ross Award, and honored with multiple national awards by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).

Stephen directs the design, development, and construction of city-based projects ranging from residential terraces and corporate headquarters to hospitality and park redevelopment. Since joining the firm in 2010, Stephen has overseen the design and management of some of the firm’s most highly publicized and notable projects in NYC and abroad. Stephen’s hospitality, residential, and office projects have won accolades from the ASLA, AIA, and ICAA, and recognition in publications such as Elle Décor and Architectural Digest. A sought-after expert on rooftop and on-structure landscapes, Stephen is a regular speaker on the opportunities and complexities of urban landscape design.
