Who We Are

Gesture is a hands-on design studio focused on well-crafted residential, workplace, and hospitality projects. With over two decades of combined experience across architecture, design, and construction, we've led teams and directed design on award-winning projects of all scales. We navigate complexity with a steady, collaborative, and empathetic approach—forming lasting relationships with clients and creating meaningful spaces that feel inevitable.

About the Role

We're seeking an Architect who brings momentum, structure, and follow-through to a thoughtful, strategic design practice. You'll engage in every aspect of the work, from early concept through completion in the field, collaborating closely with our Founder & Principal to translate ideas into clear, well-crafted drawings and built work.

Your responsibilities will include leading documentation efforts with a small support team, coordinating with clients, consultants, and builders, conducting site visits, and ensuring the heart of the design is realized in the field. This role is ideal for someone who loves the craft of architecture and finds energy in seeing projects through from concept to reality.

Who You Are

You're a thoughtful architect with a strong inclination toward organization, collaboration, and craft. You communicate with clarity, build trust easily, and thrive in an intimate, relationship-driven studio.

You may be a fit if you:

  • Lead with empathy and kindness—listening, mentoring, and building consensus among diverse teams
  • Study the history and methods of the craft, approaching your work with curiosity
  • Enjoy meeting new people (clients, consultants, builders) and forming lasting, authentic relationships
  • Are energized by moving projects forward and find joy in both the creative and technical aspects of architecture
  • Identify and cultivate potential in others through mentorship
  • Communicate clearly and confidently in conversation and presentations
  • Bring structure and clarity to complex projects, naturally following through and finding satisfaction in completion

Qualifications

  • Desire to grow with a small, meaning-driven practice
  • Professional degree in Architecture
  • 8+ years of experience; licensure strongly preferred (less professional experience will be considered)
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines and navigate complexity
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
  • Significant responsibility and long-term growth potential
  • Influence over studio culture, systems, and future direction
  • On-site position in Chattanooga, TN
