Architectural Designer
(0–5 Years Experience, Full-time, In-person, Houston Texas)

Why this role exists

Our firm is growing. Carefully and intentionally. As our work expands, we are looking for someone early in their career who wants more than just a job. This role exists to support our project teams while also investing in the next generation of architects who care deeply about beauty, craft, and the patrimony of architecture.

We believe great architecture is learned through doing, drawing, studying precedent, and working alongside others who care about excellence. This position is meant to be a formation in how to practice traditional architecture in today’s professional, technical, and cultural environment.

About Cosmati Architects

We are a firm dedicated to the renewal of beauty through the practice of Architecture in the western classical tradition. Our aim and sole mission is to serve parishes and related institutions by bringing beauty, right order and transcendence into every building that is built. We are building a team that will bring the best and most talented designers together with the best project managers and detailers with years of industry experience and put them at the service of the Church.

Who is this for?

This role is for someone with 0–5 years of professional experience who is:

  • Drawn to traditional and classical architecture
  • Curious, humble, and eager to learn
  • Interested in churches, schools, and civic buildings that matter
  • Looking for mentorship and long-term growth
  • Willing to have your preconceptions be challenged

If you’ve studied classical design formally, participated in ICAA programs, or taught yourself through drawings and precedent studies, you’ll feel at home here.

What you’ll do

You’ll be an active contributor to real projects from day one. Depending on your experience level, this may include:

  • Producing drawings in Revit and hand sketching
  • Assisting with design development and detailing
  • Researching historical precedents and architectural language
  • Preparing presentation drawings and client materials
  • Supporting senior staff across multiple project phases
  • Participating in internal design conversations and reviews

This is not a siloed role. You’ll see how projects actually move from idea to building.

How you’ll grow

We take formation seriously. Growth here is intentional and structured, not accidental.

You can expect:

  • Tradition – Deepen your understanding of classical proportion, detail, and precedent ⋅ Pacing – Increasing responsibility as skills and judgment develop
  • Craft – Daily work in drawing, modeling, and problem-solving in real world buildings ⋅ Taste – Regular exposure to great buildings, old and new, with structured ways of seeing
  • Judgement – Learning when to fight for a design decision, when to yield, and why ⋅ Vocation – Ongoing mentorship from senior architect about who you want to become

Our goal is not to keep you “junior,” but to help you become excellent.

What we are looking for

We are less concerned with polish and more concerned with potential.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch, M.Arch, or equivalent) or related design degree ⋅ 0–5 years of professional experience
  • Genuine interest in traditional/classical architecture
  • Strong drawing instincts (digital and/or hand)
  • Willingness to learn Revit (or improve significantly)
  • Attention to detail and care for quality
  • A collaborative, humble attitude

Experience with churches or classical work is a plus, but not required.

How to apply

Please send:

  • A one-page resume
  • A brief cover letter telling us why you think you are a good fit for this position
  • A portfolio (academic and/or professional work)

Email materials to: [email protected]

Subject line: Architectural Designer Application

If your portfolio includes sketchbooks, measured drawings, or precedent studies, please include them. We love seeing how you think.
