This class introduces the materials and mechanics needed to create hand-drafted architectural drawings. Topics will include short lectures and /or demonstrations followed by hands-on practice. The focus will be on orthogonal drawings. This class will provide an orientation to the unique materials and manual skills that are used in traditional hand drafting.
Instructor:
Alex Esquibel is a native California designer and educator. He has been teaching architecture and design at both private and public institutions for the past 14 years. Alex holds a Master of Arts in preservation design from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and a Bachelor of Architecture from the New School of Architecture and Design (NSAD). He is an accomplished draftsman with accolades for design excellence, and is the owner of Khôra Design, a preservation and heritage conservation consulting service based out of San Diego.

By the end of this course, participants will learn:
1. The equipment of traditional hand drafting, and the use of an architectural scale.
2. Correct drawing & drafting techniques, as well as best practices.
3. Standard orthographic projections, and their uses and relationships.
4. Simple geometric constructions and drafting shortcuts.
5. Sheet and drawing layout for the completion of a drafted composition.
