Announcing Laura Hattrup as the 2023 Winner of the Award for Emerging Excellence in the Classical Tradition

Laura Hattrup has been named the winner of the 2023 Award for Emerging Excellence in the Classical Tradition. The Award, which is now in its seventh year, is a collaboration between the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA), The Prince's Foundation, and the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU). Open to applicants around the world, the Award aims to shine a light on exceptional talent exhibited by young professionals in classical and traditional architecture, landscape and interior design, building crafts, urban design and planning, and the allied arts.

In 2019, Laura established The Architecture Company with her partner, Moritz Schrödl, a firm focused on sustainable and forward-thinking design, guided by tradition. While based in Bavaria, their work is international with projects in Europe, Australia, and the US.

Following the completion of her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, Laura worked for several years at traditional architecture and design firms in Philadelphia. In 2013, after being awarded a graduate fellowship, she headed to London to study at the Prince’s Foundation, attaining a masters in sustainable architecture and urbanism.

After two years of foundation work and completing her degree, Laura joined Our Place, a traditional, sustainable developer with an in-house architecture team. As Head of Design, Laura led the design of Spitalfields Works, an urban regeneration in East London, shaping its identity among Georgian terraces, art deco mammoths, and a historic market.

Today, Laura is a licensed architect in the Bavarian Chamber of Architects. The Architecture Company is currently designing private residences in the German countryside, with an eye on regional forms and craftsmanship, while also refurbishing an apartment in an old print building in Landshut, a historic town known for its gothic, medieval and renaissance cityscape. Most recently they have partnered with builders in Victoria, Australia to develop several sustainable houses in the local surf coast style.
