Revealed, Reviled & Reborn: 100 Years of California's Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Revival with Michael Burch

Hosted by the ICAA Philadelphia Chapter

    By ICAA

    July 19, 2021

On November 6, 2020, the ICAA Philadelphia Chapter was pleased to present a virtual lecture with Michael Burch (Michael Burch Architects), Revealed, Reviled & Reborn: 100 Years of California's Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Revival.

In the lecture, Mr. Burch offers a brief history of the Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Revival style as seen from California. He covers the style’s origins, its Golden Age, Hollywood’s impact, what the style was like at mid-century, the return to its roots, and some thoughts on the present and hope for the future. Humor, horror, and celebrity crimes are all touched upon. Following this discussion, the second part of the talk focuses on the speaker's own work as an example of Spanish Colonial/Mediterranean Revival Architecture in the present day.
